This is the tenth in a series of annual Yao Yuan conferences. Previous conferences have been held at Northwestern, the University of Illinois in Chicago, or commercial venues in Chicago and China. This year is the first that we have the honor of holding the meeting at the University of Chicago. With a theme of “The Future of Drug Discovery: How Technological Advances are Giving Old Concepts New Life”, this year’s event is aimed at highlighting advances in Chemical Biology, Immuno-Oncology and Precision Medicine that are leading the field into the next era of drug discovery. Continuing with last year’s emphasis on student attendees, there was a poster competition sponsored by ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters and the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. In addition, there was a discussion panel focusing on entrepreneurship in science, featuring outstanding industrial, academic and venture capital panelists who will discuss a variety of hot topics on start-up enterprises.
This event has attracted more than 220 professionals, academicians and students. Though primarily intended to be a Midwest regional gathering, e.g., Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin, the Symposium has attracted attendees from all over the world.
